Q: Who the hell are you? A: Just a 20-something guy who works hard, makes good money, takes great care of his body, and wants to live it up, be happy, be surrounded by interesting and ambitious people, and who takes every opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of life. Q: What religion are you? A: I used to be Jewish, but I got better. Seriously, my heritage is Jewish, but not my religion. I don't feel guilty. Q: Do you believe in God? A: I haven't given it much thought at all. There is nothing to think about. What is there to consider? Thinking about that question is an instant dead end. You have to reach your conclusion at the beginning of the thought process. In other words, I don't know, and I don't think I will ever know. So I don't really ponder that question all that much. Q: You know you're going to hell, right? A: I consider that an empty threat. Q: What if God really exists? What will do then? A: Well, this is a loaded question. It implies that if there is a God, and I didn't believe, that God will fuck me over when I die. This is not a political campaign where the loser's supporters get screwed in policymaking. God will not care if I got on my knees and prayed each day. This trait is inherently human, and not god-like. It only servers the purpose of the organized religion on Earth - its a pressure tactic. Even religion itself teaches that all who lead a good life are welcomed by God. This I can live by. What will I do when I die? Not a fucking clue. I don't even have plans for next month, much less 60 years from now. Q: You have a lot of good points, and they are all logical and make sense. I can't agree though. A: Well, I know how hard it is to eschew organized religion, not matter how ridiculous it can become! Dropping it from your lifestyle openly can feel like walking out into the street naked. It takes time. But you can overcome! Sure, there are some places in the world that are more friendly to logical thinking, and I'm glad I live in one of them. The most important place to free yourself is in your own mind. Freedom is being able to think for yourself. Guilt is worse than any pressure other people can apply to you, because you live with it non-stop. You can never run from it. For the same reason total self confidence is the most powerful positive feeling you can have. No one can take it away at will. You own it, just like you can own guilt. It's your choice which one to carry with you. |
