A Queens couple has been charged with abusing their 15-month-old daughter, who weighed just 10 pounds and was slowly starving to death when cops rescued her last year. Joseph and Silva Swinton's baby was suffering from rickets, had a broken arm and ribs from lack of Vitamin D, and couldn't even lift her head off a pillow when cops went to the house to investigate.

The Swintons insisted they were raising the baby on what they called a strict "vegan" diet that included ground nuts, fruit juice and cod liver oil. Despite the baby's obvious medical problems, they told cops she was fine.

Eight humanitarian aid workers from America, Germany and Australia were released from an Afghan jail on Tuesday by Northern Alliance fighters. They had been arrested by the Taliban in August on charges of promoting Christianity.

The aid workers...were employed by Shelter Now International, which is part of a Germany-based Christian humanitarian group called Vision for Asia.
